We had a great time last Thursday at the ground breaking ceremony for our client, The Barn at Raccoon Creek, helping to promote its renovation project of The Barn on the historic property. Below is a recap of the festivities. Photos courtesy of Van Buren Photography.
The Barn at Raccoon Creek celebrated its ground breaking on October 9. The ceremony kicked off an extensive project that includes the renovation of the historic red milking barn on the historic Grant family-owned Raccoon Creek property and a series of new builds to accommodate Colorado’s booming destination wedding industry. More than 65 people came out to join the celebration at the venue located at 7301 W. Bowles Ave. in Littleton, Colo.
In addition to officially breaking ground on the project, the event featured a raffle giveaway and site discounts to attendees, tours of the historic property and refreshments from Gigi’s Cupcakes. Littleton resident and bride-to-be Kaley Barrett won the raffle giveaway of one waived site fee (up to a value of $5,500) for her future wedding held at The Barn. Barrett and her fiancé Stephen Sferra plan are to be wed at The Barn in July 2015.
The event featured members of the Grant family, with former resident of the property Newell Grant serving as the family spokesperson. Other notable guests included Jefferson County Commissioners Faye Griffin, Casey Tighe and Donald Rosier, The Barn at Raccoon Creek Sales Director Abby Nurre, and Jordy Construction’s Sean Wardroup, Dan Martell, Edgar Quintero and Kristin Kyser.
“We are excited to honor the history of the Raccoon Creek property through the renovation of The Barn and look forward to making this a premier Denver destination for weddings and special events featuring the historical element Colorado is known for,” said Newell Grant, Grant family member. “This restoration and enhancement project is the Grant family legacy and an ode to the heritage of Jefferson County.”
When renovation of The Barn is complete in May 2015, it will be Denver’s only historic barn venue that can accommodate up to 200 guests for weddings and special events with an unparalleled sense of rustic elegance. The venue will also feature a Bridal Cottage, a new build that is taking the place of “the white house” where workers resided, that will provide bridal parties with a comfortable and charming location to prepare for the wedding day. An expansive courtyard landscaped with local Colorado wildflowers and plants will neighbor these century-old landmarks, as well a ceremony site with rustic wooden benches, a beautiful area surrounded by aged trees with views of the Rocky Mountains in the distance. For many engaged couples, businesses, and community members, it is a desired destination location offering a “rustic meets elegant” venue space set against the beautiful Colorado Rockies. Full-service construction firm Jordy Construction is leading the project.
The Barn at Raccoon Creek is a part of the original Grant Ranch property that dates back to 1878, when the third Colorado State and first Democratic Governor, James B. Grant, purchased the property using it as a gun and sporting club for family and friends. The property was later sold to a cattle rancher, and in 1933 was repurchased by the Grant family. Today, the property houses the popular 18-hole Raccoon Creek Golf Course, the Grove restaurant, a clubhouse which includes a full pro-shop. Together with the original farm buildings, the Raccoon Creek property is considered by many as a picturesque and a living museum of an earlier ranch and farm life.
