(Denver, Colo., Feb. 3, 2014) – The National ADA Symposium, a comprehensive conference on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), will be held June 15-18, 2014, in Denver, Colo. at the Hyatt Regency at Colorado Convention Center. Hosted by the Great Plains and Rocky Mountain ADA Centers, and sponsored by the ADA National Network, this annual conference is designed to provide practical, useful information and training on ADA implementation. Registration for the 2014 National ADA Symposium is now open to the public.
The National ADA Symposium is a four day event comprised of a pre-conference, keynote, break-out sessions, advanced discussion groups, exhibits, and hands-on learning activities. The conference schedule features 72 break-out sessions providing cutting edge information on a wide range of topics related to the ADA. Break-out sessions are hosted by nationally recognized presenters representing key agencies and organizations involved with the ADA such as: Department of Justice (DOJ), U.S. Access Board, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), National Center on Accessibility, and the International Code Council (ICC).
“The National ADA Symposium is designed for a large and varied audience including ADA Coordinators, advocates, architects, members of the business community, educators, government officials, and service providers, to name a few,” stated ADA Symposium Chairman James De Jong. “We are proud to provide a robust conference on the ADA; 98% of our attendees report learning valuable information and skills that are pertinent to their jobs and communities.”
In addition to the 72 break-out sessions and lectures, the 2014 National ADA Symposium will feature comedian Josh Blue of NBC’s “Last Comic Standing” and Comedy Central’s “Mind of Mencia.” Scheduled as a featured speaker during lunch on Monday, June 15, Blue stands out among his peers for his quick-witted improv, endearing likeability and also because he has cerebral palsy. He uses comedy to share his experiences as a person with a disability, and continues to dismantle stereotypes one laugh at a time.
The diverse conference schedule offers sessions targeted to meet the needs of attendees from a variety of occupations and backgrounds, including: ADA coordinators, advocates, architects, the general business community, code officials, educators, government officials, human resource specialists, service providers, and individuals with disabilities and their family members. Further, many sessions meet ADA Coordinator Training Certificate Program foundation and elective credits.
